Excerpt from Annual Report of the School Committee of the City of Charlestown: December, 1860 The School Committee of the City of Charlestown, make the following report of their doings, and of the condition of the several public schools under their charge during the past year: New School-Houses. One of the first acts of the Committee, after its organization, at the commencement of the year, was the appointment of a Sub-Committee to petition the City Council for the erection of two new Primary School-houses. The petition was presented and referred to the Committee on City Property, with instructions to confer with the School Committee in regard to locations, plans of buildings, &c., the result of which conference was the selection of a lot of land on Mead street, and another on Moulton street, on which have been erected two brick buildings, each to accommodate four primary schools, and a description of which we give, as follows: The school-house on Mead street is built upon a lot of land about sixty-seven feet by ninety feet, and it is set back twenty feet from the line of the street.
