Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from The Holy Gospel According to Saint Luke The present Commentary has been designed in the first instance for the students of St. Edmund´s College. The privilege of affiliation to the University of Cambridge makes it necessary that our upper classes, or "College" Division, should be presented for the Higher Local Examination, in which Scripture is an important subject. The arrangements now made by the University authorities ensure that students from our Colleges studying Scripture shall not be at any disadvantage compared with other candidates. At the same time, the standard to be attained is a high one. The notes and Introduction have accordingly been made fuller than would be necessary for the ordinary Local Examinations, whether Senior or Junior, of either Oxford or Cambridge. To render the work more complete for its purpose, an Introduction has been prefixed dealing with the characteristics of the Gospel of St. Luke and kindred subjects. Further, in order that it may suitably find a place in the series of simple but adequate Commentaries projected some years since by the Catholic Truth Society, some pages have been added, dealing with the original texts, the Vulgate, and the Douay Version. Thus it is hoped that the use of the book will not be limited to candidates for any particular examination. The three maps issued herewith have been specially prepared.
