Of the anecdotes with which they abound, there are none of which I myself doubt the authenticity. There are no disquisitions on commerce and politics I have given facts, and the Reader may comment for himself. My poetical imitations are made with freedom, but I have always done justice to the originals by annexing them. The want of proper types obliged me to adopt in the Portugueze the improvement of the Spanish Academy, and change the c subscribed into z.
