Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Prairie Flowers Heather Bells Marian Sorlie was born near Perthshire, Scotland, December 20th, 1827. She came to America in 1840, making her home first in Michigan. She attended high school in Birmingham, where her teachers "excused" her for always writing her compositions in poetry, "because she could not help it." Later she moved to Detroit, where she attended a select school. She took a special course in science and languages, including philosophy, astronomy, French and Latin. In 1848 she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and two years later to St. Joseph, Missouri, where, on June 19th, 1851, she was married to Granille P. Livermore. In 1853, after the death of her little daughter, to which she so touchingly alludes in "Little Belle, My Darling Daughter," Mrs. Livermore made her last visit to Scotland. She and her husband moved to Kansas with their family in 1856, locating at Palermo. In 1866 they came to Wathena, where Mrs. Livermore has since resided, Mr. Livermore having died in 1882. With the publication of this volume of poems the dearest hope of her life is realized. And now, at the age of eighty-three years, and blind, with that unalterable faith in God which has characterized her entire life, Marian S. Livermore calmly awaits the "touch that shall unloose the silver chord" and permit the "freed spirit to rise and greet a never-ending day."
