Imagination has little part in it, save in the dacoit chapters. If I have made mistakes in these passages, correction by any one having dacoit experience will be gratefully received. I have no desire to "inform," but wish still less to misinform. For many useful hints and suggestions I have to thank Moung Gyee, son of Moung Kheen, and Pho Thin. I beg indulgence for my artist, who, as a "son of the town," is at a disadvantage in portraying jungle scenes. By the advice of my publishers, the majority of the pictures have been reproduced exactly as drawn, in order to preserve their character.
