The author aims to give plain facts and accurate statements, yet it would not be strange if there were errors, considering the multitude of dates and names, and the rough way in which it is sometimes necessary to keep a journal in the field. To many members of the regiment I am greatly indebted for valuable information received, and for the great interest they have taken in this work.
