Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Trinity College, Dublin During the preparation of this volume I received kindly assistance from many friends. I am particularly indebted to Mr. John Wardell for a mass of material obtained from original sources, which a most generous expenditure of time and labour enabled him to place at my disposal. To Mr. E. J. Gwynn, Fellow of the House, I owe the critical estimate of the Irish MSS. in the library; to Mr. W. R. P. McNeight the account given of the College rowing ♣ to Professor Joly, the photograph of the Old Row in Library Square; and to Mr. John Cooke, Mr. R. P. Cowl, and Mr. Charles Exon I am indebted for much useful advice. The proofs have been read in part by Dr. Gwynn, Regius Professor of Divinity in the University, and throughout by Dr. Mahaffy, Senior Fellow and Registrar. To them, as well as to the above-mentioned friends, I wish here to express my warmest thanks. I have drawn freely for my facts upon the existing histories of the University by Messrs. Heron, Taylor, and Stubbs; upon the Book of Trinity College; upon Mr. Urwick´s Early History of the University; upon the pamphlets and the MSS. catalogued and uncatalogued in the College library; and I have incorporated some sentences from an article on ´Trinity College, Dublin,´ written by myself in the Quarterly Review for July, 1892. Owing to the limits placed upon me by the character of the book, I have, however, been unable to make use of an immense body of material open to any historian who may project his work upon a nobler scale.
