Excerpt from Digest of Laws Relating to Free Schools in the State of Arkansas 7484-b. - Members to Subscribe to Oath. Sec. 2. The members of said board, other than the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, shall take and subscribe to the oath of office as provided in section 6763, Kirby´s Digest. 7484-c. - Term of Office of Appointed Members. Sec. 3. The term of office of the appointed members shall be seven years, and until their successors are appointed and qualified; provided, that in the appointment of the first State Board of Education, one member shall be appointed for one year, one for two years, one for three years, one for four years, one for five years, one for six years, and one for seven years. If a vacancy shall occur on said board, the vacancy shall be filled by appointment, as provided in section 1, and said member so appointed shall serve out the unexpired term of the member in whose place he is appointed. 7484-d. - When to Convene Annually or Oftener. Sec. 4. The State Board of Education shall meet annually on the first Monday of September of each year, in the office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction; provided, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, as chairman of the State Board of Education, may convene said board at any time upon five days written notice to the members thereof; provided further, that the chairman of the board shall call a meeting thereof at any time upon the written petition of four members of said board.
