Excerpt from A Treatise on the Principles of the Law of Compensation The original scheme of this Treatise, which consisted in the adoption of a logical method of arrangement founded on exposition of principle, has, as far as possible, been preserved, though the large number of Statutes that have been passed since the publication of the Fifth Edition in 1905, has made it necessary to introduce a second book dealing with the numerous modifications of the Lauds Clauses Acts which have been enacted. These modifications have been arranged for convenience under the headings of the various subject-matters in connection with which the land is being acquired. The decisions given by the Courts since the last edition have been carefully noted up and the text modified or rewritten where necessary. A Table of Statutes has been added and all the material portions of the new Statutes are printed in the Appendix, which should now form a practically complete collection of the material portions of all the Statutes dealing with the subject-matter of compensation.
