Excerpt from Paralysis and Other Diseases of the Nervous System in Childhood and Early Life The aim of this book is to present in as brief a form as is compatible with completeness an account of the various forms of paralysis and allied disorders, as they are met with in early life. It is hoped that it may be useful to the advanced student, as well as to the practitioner. The absence of references in the text and of any bibliography may disappoint some readers. It was considered desirable, however, not to interrupt the text with references to footnotes, and a bibliography even of those books which have been consulted would have added considerably to the bulk of the volume. The inclusion of a complete bibliography, on the other hand, would have seemed to arrogate to the work a more ambitious character than it aspires to. It is, in effect, an expression of personal opinions, the result of the writer´s observations, modified and extended by his knowledge of the views of others, on subjects which have interested him for a good many years, and in regard to which he has had the good fortune to have special opportunities of acquiring experience. I am very much indebted to writers too numerous to mention individually, but I should like to express my acknowledgments to several of my colleagues and friends.
