He was educated at Westminster School; he studied at St. Thomas´ Hospital, and afterwards in Berlin and Paris; in 1839 qualified as Member of the Royal College of Surgeons; and was elected a Fellow in 1866. He became one of the first Scientists in Norfolk, and practised in Diss and the neighbourhood for fifty years, with distinguished ability, winning the highest esteem. He was a frequent contributor to the Medical Journals, The Journal of Science Gossip, and the local papers.
