Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Monsieur Alphonse: A Play in Three Acts; Adapted and Augmented Scene. - The interior of a country house near the sea. Beyond is a garden and a conservatory, the entrance to which is at C. by a flight of steps. To the R. is a library, to the L. is the door of entrance. The curtain rises to the music of an old sea song. Remy enters with a naval coat, which he is brushing. Advances down stairs from conservatory, singing. "Oh, oh, my messmates now we´ll sing The glories of Neptune, the ocean king, And the fun that´s had on the O - O - shun!" Remy. [Admiring the coat.] Laid up on the stocks a whole year, and just as trim as ever! [Brushes.] Clean as a holystoned deck arter a dryin´ sun. Ah! How often I´ve seed this coat marchin´ back´ard and for´ard on the quarter, an´ him as was inside - it brave and cool when every other mother´s son of us was up to the taffrails in fear o´ the comin´ squall. And so he´s off agin to-morrow! [Folds coat at L. table.] And I ain´t! The first voyage old Remy has let him go alone! - and that´s what I got to thank the rheumatix for! Ah! [Shakes his head, and brushes off a speck from the folded coat.] Manon and Bonette enter up the steps at back; they peer curiously in. Hello! Who´s them? Strange craft; not in our service! [They huddle closely together, whispering; then look at Rem. and curtsey.] Well! What´s in the wind, folks? [Bon. pushes her mother to speak.] Bonette. [R., both curtseying.] We must be in the right place! Speak to him, mother! Manon. [Timid and simple.] Please sir, who are you? Rem. [L., imitating curtsey.] Who am I? That´s not bad from a boarding party dropping on your own deck! Who am I? I think I might ax who are you? Bon. Of course you might, sir - truly. We mean no offence, sir - truly.
