Excerpt from The Works of the Most Reverend Father in God, John Bramhall D.D, Vol. 3: Sometime Lord Archibishop of Armagh, Primate and Metropolitan of All Ireland The Editor is happy to find himself at length enabled to publish the third volume of the Works of Archbishop Bramhall; which carries the work forwards to the end of the Second Part of his Discourses. The fourth volume, containing the Third Part, will appear, he hopes, in the course of the next three months. Of the Discourses now published, the first (being the last of the First Part) is employed in defence of the Succession of English Bishops, against the Romanists; and is reprinted, as regards the text, from the original edition of 1658 (Hague, 8vo.), the Advertisement and Post script prefixed, from a republication of the book in 1659 (London, 8vo.), and of the documents contained in the Appendix, which were added in the folio edition of Bramhall´s Works in 1676-7, the first from the original Register, the second from a facsimile of the original, published by the Cambridge Antiquarian Society (see below p. 210, note a). The remaining three Discourses constitute the Second Part of the collected works, those "against the English Sectaries."
