Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Elementary Pedagogy The subject of pedagogy is very generally regarded by young teachers with a certain amount of dread. They think of it as dry, difficult, uninteresting, and hard to comprehend. Were it not that examining boards and superintendents require that candidates for certificates shall possess a knowledge of pedagogy and pass an examination in that subject, it is to be feared that many teachers would never study it. And yet, it is one of the most valuable subjects, and one of the most profitable that can engage the attention of the instructor. It not only gives a broad view of the work of education, but it may also be a most potent aid in solving the problems of the schoolroom. Hence it is necessary and invaluable to every teacher. Nor need the subject be dry or distasteful even to the young and untrained beginner. Indeed, it is one of the most interesting subjects that demand the attention of those to whom is committed the education of the young. Taste for any kind of literature is a growth. It has seemed to me that works on general pedagogy have presupposed a development too advanced in educational thought on the part of the beginner, and therefore have discouraged him at the outset. The attempt is made in this book to provide material for the beginner in the study of pedagogy. Let this not be forgotten. The method employed is largely inductive.
