Excerpt from The Consolidated School Law of the State of New York: With Appendix Containing General Statutes of the State Relative to the Schools Not Properly Part of the Consolidated School Law, and Rules of Practice Governing Appeals to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, in Force on June 1, 1902 An act to provide that "the University of the State of New York" shall be governed and its corporate powers exercised by II Regents, and to provide for their election; and to provide for a Department of Education and the election of a Commissioner of Education. Became a law Mar. 8, 1904, with the approval of the Governor. Passed, three fifths being present. The people of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: §1 Government of University. On and after the first day of April, 1904, the corporation designated by the Constitution as "the University of the State of New York" shall be governed and its corporate powers exercised by II Regents. The term of office of the Regents now in office, not selected as herein provided, shall cease and determine on said first day of April following the election of the II Regents hereinafter provided for.
