Soil from the old tomb at Mount Vernon, where Washington and his wife were first buried. - Contributed by Mrs. Adlai E. Stevenson, President-General National Society D. A. R., Washington, D. C. Earth from grave of Marquis de Lafayette, from the cemetery at Picpus, Paris, France. - Contributed by the French Government, and received through the courtesy of M. Reynal, Minister of the Interior and M. L. de Lalande, Consul-Général de France, at San Francisco, Cal. Earth from grave of Mary Ball Washington, the mother of the "Father of his Country," from the spot chosen by herself on her own home plantation, "Kenmore," near Fredericksburg, Va.; also, piece of the old monument erected to her memory, the corner-stone of which was laid by General Andrew Jackson, President of the United States, May 7, 1833. - Contributed by her great-great-granddaughter, Miss Eugenia Washington, one of the founders of the National Society D.
