The inquiries of the Education Committee of the House of Commons, appointed in 1816, were mainly directed to an examination of this very important subject. After continuing the investigation for some weeks, the Committee made a Report, in which the state and conduct of many schools founded by charitable persons in and near the metropolis was fully detailed, by means of an examination of the masters, trustees, and other persons entrusted with their management.
