As a concise introduction to the account of one who labored probably longer than any other individual in his vocation in New England, I have given a chapter on the early schools of Boston. One cannot fail to notice the great improvement that has been made in the mode of teaching during the past two centuries, and the excellent facilities now afforded for the cultivation of the mind and the elevation of the affections.
