Their strongest praise cannot reach too high. We all know full well what a background of encouragement, sympathy, and actual aid the women of the North furnished; they held back their deepest wishes lest they should be considered selfish, cheered long weary hours with patriotic songs, and organized through villages and towns to carry on the work of the Sanitary Commission.
