Excerpt from A Report to Educators on Teaching Films Survey Late in 1945 several thousand school administrators and teachers cooperated with the seven publishers named on the title page of this booklet by answering elaborate motion-picture questionnaires prepared by Carroll Y. Belknap, consultant in management research. The purpose of the study to which these questionnaires contributed was succinctly stated on the printed questionnaires themselves: "... to evaluate the effectiveness of the visual aids now available and to explore more fully the possibilities of correlation between film production and textbook publication. The subjects of the study are of fundamental importance to American education. Thus, in the truest sense, this study is being conducted for the benefit of the schools themselves, as well as for that of the sponsoring publishers." We here tell you the story of the study of certain aspects of audio-visual education made by Mr. Belknap for our group of seven publishers and of experimental work done by us in cooperation with the Motion Picture Association. American education contributed to both. We are, therefore, making available to the thousands of teachers and school administrators who helped in the survey this brief account of our activities together with a summary of results. Upon application, single copies of this document will be sent gratis to interested persons until the edition is exhausted.
