Excerpt from Public School Finance in Minnesota: Summary of a Report Prepared for the Minnesota Education Association Committee on School Tax and Sources of School Support Most of the data used in preparing this report have been taken from unpublished tables furnished by the United States Bureau of Education, from unpublished tables compiled by the Minnesota State Department of Education, and from unpublished reports of Minnesota county auditors and county superintendents of schools on file in the office of the State Department of Education. Such unpublished data are always subject to corrections of two kinds: those made possible by fuller and later data, and those arising from the discovery of errors after the documents have been filed. Great care has been used to exclude all material containing obvious errors, and in many cases important data have been verified by personal correspondence with the various county officials. It has been deemed preferable to use facts for the most recent year available, even in spite of the difficulty involved in securing these facts from unpublished documents, rather than to be satisfied with published, but already out-of-date data. If any errors in individual cases have eluded the vigilance of the authors, such errors, it is believed, do not affect the solution viewed in the large, nor the soundness of the conclusions presented. Grateful acknowledgments are due Commissioner McConnell and various members of the State Department of Education; to county superintendents throughout the state; to Superintendent Campton, of Two Harbors; and to Professor Dyer of the College of Agriculture for cooperation in the assembling of the data used in the present study.
