Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from The North and the South at Antietam and Gettysburg The first battle of Bull Run, fought on July 21, 1861, was in response to the urgent demand of the North that something should be done; that a move should be made toward the accomplishment of the object for which Mr. Lincoln had called out the militia "of the several States of the Union to the aggregate number of seventy-five thousand men. The first service assigned to the forces hereby called forth will probably be to repossess the forts, places and property which have been seized from the Union." The men came in response to this call, for the North was the party making it and Mr. Lincoln was the herald of the proclamation. There was an expectancy in the men who came, and in the communities from which they came, that they would at once "repossess the forts, places and property which have been seized from the Union."
