His explanation and apology will be found, not only in his professional duties which allowed him little leisure; but also in the difficulty of visiting the localities treated of, and of collecting and arranging the writings of others who treat of them. This is one of a series of volumes, uniform in size, each of which is complete in itself, and treats of a group of parishes in the diocese, which are adjacent to one another. The different volumes are so arranged that a person may provide himself with the one which refers to the district in which he feels an interest, and not to be put to the expense of purchasing the whole series.
