Of their intrinsic excellence we shall only observe, that they contain nothing contrary to religion and virtue; that some of the poems breathe the purest piety; and all cause us to lament that one so gifted has been so soon withdrawn from this "world´s wilderness." Had he lived a little longer, it is probable he would have held no mean place among the poets of his native land. This volume is, therefore, with respectful confidence, submitted to an enlightened public; and we trust its perusal will not be productive of disappointment.
