The scenes described are to be found, with the illustrations, in various mythological works; but many additions appropriate to the subject are introduced, to make the play a first-class production. The Phrygian Dance is the crowning feature of the play. Although an innovation, it is introduced to bring on the stage the young people of both sexes, as participants in a scene that will have its effect in banishing from the boards those extravagancies that for years past have been such a scandal upon the stage. The Grand Tableau in the Fifth Act is taken from the celebrated painting of "The Marriage," by Raphael, in the Farnesina, at Rome - the only change in the picture being an addition to the wardrobe of some of the principal characters.
