He did not, it is true, rank with men distinguished for science, but his abilities were of no ordinary description; and, without pretending to deeds that procure the renown by which mankind is too commonly dazzled, he exhibited what are incomparably superior - a mind ardently devoted to the glory of God, and a life spent in unwearied exertions for the best interests of his fellow-creatures. Eminent for the exercise of personal religion, he was signally successful in diffusing piety among all whom Providence had placed within the sphere of his influence.
