Excerpt from The Working Men´s College: Third Report, 1858 The Council of the Working Men´s College trust that they may report some progress during the last year. The classes have increased; the students have shown that they understand the privileges and the obligations of a College. That part of our education which is conducted by them is especially promising. It was announced in the last Report that classes had been proposed and formed by several of the senior pupils, for the instruction of those who were not ready for the more advanced teaching. How these classes have been conducted and attended will be understood best from the reports which we subjoin. They are printed just as they have been sent in to us, and are not less valuable, we think, as illustrating the disposition of the masters, than for the information which they give respecting the pupils. To these we add a letter from our valuable schoolmaster, Mr. Roebuck, of whose services, nearly every night in the week, the small stipend we are able to pay him is the slightest possible recognition.
