Therefore foreign decisions become of less weight, not only because of the variations of the statutes upon which such decisions are based, but also because of the precedents established by the appellate court of the home state. Michigan as a state has developed her own tax laws during a period of over fifty years and our Supreme Court has very extensively interpreted them. It has been the aim in the present work to collate these decisions. No attempt has been made to suggest what the law should be, but rather to show what it is at the present time. In an attempt to state principles as they were authoritatively delivered, the language of the text, without the use of quotation marks, is taken very freely from the opinions.
