Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Fedora: A Lyric Drama The Princess Fedora Ro nazov is strongly attached to Count Vladimir Andrejevich, a handsome but dissolute man, whose true character is known only to a group of boors companions, who in the first act make merry over the news of his approaching marriage to the princess. While Fedora visits Vladimir´s house, the Count is brought in mortally wounded. He dies and suspicion fastens on Count Loris Ipanov, for whom a search is at once instituted. He disappears while Fedora swears to avenge her lover´s murder. In the second act Fedora is receiving her friends at a brilliant reception in Paris. Fedora has contrived to find Ipanov and to engage his affections, hoping in that way to extort from him a confession of his guilt. When Loris professes his love for Fedora, she announces her resolve to return to St. Petersburg. Loris confesses himself a refugee, condemned as an accomplice in the murder of Vladimir. Fedora arranges to entrap him, but at an appointed interview, gives him a chance to exculpate himself which she secretly hopes he may be able to do. Loris finally tells her that he had killed Vladimir after he had found out that the latter had seduced his wife. Loris produces Vladimir´s letters, which prove his utter perfidy to Fedora just on the eve of her planned marriage to him Fedora´s sense of her injustice to Loris quickens her affection for him and they are betrothed. In the third act Loris and Fedora are enjoying the freedom of her villa in the Bernese Alps. While the Count goes on an errand, Fedora learns that the incriminating letter, which she had sent to the Russian authorities, has brought about the arrest and execution of the brother of Loris, a tragedy causing his mother´s death. Loris returns and on opening letters from St. Petersburg, learns all the truth. Overwhelmed, he begs Fedora to aid him in bringing to justice the woman who has betrayed him Fedora in remorse at the outcome of her incriminating letter prays him pitifully to remember that the lover of Vladimir must have suffered, too. Loris, confused, reiterates his resolve to revenge himself on the one who has ruined his family. Fedora, fearful that he will himself murder her, drains a cup of poison, receiving at the last moment the pardon of Loris.
