His first intention was simply to publish the testimony borne to the deceased, by the preacher, and which now appears at the close of the narrative. Some recollections of the last twenty-four hours of her illness, which could only be sparingly introduced in the Sermon, were deemed of sufficient interest to the family and friends, to combine with, and form a sequel to, that publication. And to these succeeded, what now appears most prominent in the title-page - the Memoir. This has been written amidst increasing occupation and multiplied interruptions, at brief intervals; often in unavoidable haste, and as fragments of time could be gathered up for the purpose.
