Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from The Canadian Magazine, Vol. 59: Of Politics, Science, Art and Literature; May to October 1922, Inclusive Canada´s Fourteenth Parliament is entering on the third month of its existence. The third Liberal Government since Confederation has been functioning for about three months. In either ease the period is perhaps all too brief for a considered judgment as to what the country may expect from its new administration. Both are fresh from the hands of their creators, entering into what is, to the majority of the members, a new world; in some cases, strange and "gawky" as new boys at school; in the case of the Progressive members in the House, particularly, charged with responsibilities even more difficult to discharge than are those of the Government. If there ever was a time in the history of Canada when an administration needed the sympathy and consideration of the people, it is now. There is a cynical dictum from an old Canadian master of political strategy to the effect that "elections are not won with prayers;" but prayers may quite conceivably he helpful to an administration after it has emerged successfully from the trials of an election. We may assume that the readers of The Canadian Magazine remote from the strife of tongues which wages so fiercely and, one is inclined to judge, often so foolishly at Ottawa, are sufficiently detached to be prepared to view with sympathy the task which this new administration has assumed; and at the same time to realize, as the present Government is now probably realizing more completely, the weight of the burden laid down by its predecessors in office.
