Hunt´s story is a version of a very pleasing tradition. Parts of it could in no way be improved. These I have followed literally, but the tale admitted of expansion, and I have, therefore, introduced several new incidents, besides endeavoring to give to the narrative a cast more purely ideal. The reader will remark that no small portion of this work is composed of Sonnets. Many of these were included in a volume issued from a Southern press in 1857.
