Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Cameos of Playwrights Players: 1914 1921, With Open Letter From Gerald Du Maurier Dear Mr. Grein, As you have been so generous as to devote the proceeds of the sale of your little volume "Cameos" to the Actors´ Orphanage, the least I can do as its President is to thank you for your great kindness, and wish it every success and "bon voyage." I remember years ago on the first night of a production, for which I was entirely responsible (it took place on a Saturday), a friend of mine came round and said "J. T. Grein is in the front row, I wonder what he thinks of it?" I replied "I neither know nor care"! This being the case, I wonder why I snatched the "Sunday Times" from the servant´s hands the first thing in the morning, and tore it open to see what you had written. After all, what a fool one would be, if one didn´t listen very earnestly to the considered opinion of a man who has devoted his life to the theatre in the way that you have done. And now, when so many of your friends and mine are no longer with us, it must surely be interesting to many who treat you as a sort of oracle in matters theatrical, to listen to what you have to say about them and their art. Your pen, at any rate, is always steeped in enthusiasm, and what you say, you mean, and stick to, and sign your name above for all the world to see. In the present case, your signature is at the foot of what I trust will be a handsome cheque in aid of the sons and daughters of those whose art you have already done so much to foster and encourage.
