Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Proceedings Upon the Dedication of Plummer Hall, at Salem, October 6, 1857: Including Mr. Hoppin´s Address and Judge White´s Memoir of the Plummer Family Miss Caroline Plummer, of Salem, who died May 15, 1854, left, by her will, to the Proprietors of the Salem Athenaeum the sum of Thirty Thousand Dollars, to be appropriated for the purchasing a piece of land in some central and convenient spot in the city of Salem, and erecting thereon a safe and elegant building, of brick or stone, to be employed for the purpose of depositing the books belonging to said Corporation, with liberty also to have the rooms thereof used for meetings of any literary or scientific institutions, or for the deposit of any works of art or natural productions. The building has accordingly been erected, and on the eve of its completion, at a meeting of the Proprietors, held on the 31st of January, 1857, the Trustees were advised to take into consideration the dedication of Plummer Hall, and to make arrangements therefor. At a meeting of the Trustees, subsequently held, a Committee, consisting of Messrs. G. Choate and A. Huntington, was appointed to select the orator and to make the necessary arrangements. This committee was afterwards enlarged, by the addition of W. Mack and II. Wheatland. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
