Produktbeschreibung

Ford Madox Hueffer, also known as Ford Madox Ford, was an English poet and novelist who is most well known for his work The Good Soldier. Ladies Whose Bright Eyes: A Romance was not the smash hit that some of Hueffer´s works were, but is still a book that carries the author´s trademark style and talent. Ladies Whose Bright Eyes is the story of a man sent back in time, from the nineteenth century to the fourteenth, where he lands in medieval England where Edward II has just been deposed from his throne by his wife Isabella after several years of hardships. Sorrel, the central character, is uneasy with the brutality and despair that abounds, but believes that with his intelligence and foresight he can become a great ruler. He attracts the affection of many ladies and is particularly drawn to Dionyssia, who serves as his primary love interest. While initially struck with great ambition, Sorrel is increasingly and regularly humbled as the book progresses, and concludes the book a different man than he was when it commenced. Hueffer is a skilled author who has drawn comparison to the great Mark Twain. He is quick of wit and clever with his words. Ladies Whose Bright Eyes is a fantastical story, but one that Hueffer grounds with his realistic depiction of the central characters. This is a well-paced novel and one that is representative of the author´s style. Readers unfamiliar with Ford Madox Hueffer´s work may opt to start with one of his better known novels, but should not overlook Ladies Whose Bright Eyes: A Novel. This is a masterfully executed and well-written book, and one that deserves a wider audience than it has received.
