Excerpt from Annual Report of the Cemetery Department Sir, - The Cemetery Department of the City of Boston respectfully submits its report for the fiscal year 1903-1904. By an Act of the Legislature, chapter 375, of the year 1897, all burial grounds owned by and in charge of the City of Boston were placed under the control of the Cemetery Department. Chapter 375. An Act to establish a cemetery department in the city of Boston. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Section 1. There shall be in the city of Boston a cemetery department, which shall be under the charge of a board of five trustees appointed by the mayor, subject to confirmation by the board of aldermen. Said trustees shall, in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, be appointed, one for the term of one year, one for the term of two years, one for the term of three years, one for the term of four years and one for the term of five years, each term beginning with the first day of May in said year; and annually thereafter the mayor shall appoint, subject to confirmation as aforesaid, one trustee for the term of five years, beginning with the first day of May in the year of appointment. Chapter two hundred and sixty-six of the acts of the year eighteen hundred and eighty-five, and all acts relating to departments and officers of departments in the city of Boston, shall, so far as applicable, apply to said department and the officers and employees thereof.
