Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from James Harris Fairchild: Or Sixty-Eight Years With a Christian College Few colleges of our country have chronicled a term of service so distinguished and so long as that rendered by James H. Fairchild. The aim in the preparation of the present volume has been not only to preserve the memory of his charming personality, but to see some of the really significant features of his life and work in their historical setting. In him we see the simplicity and grandeur of that Puritanism in America which had so much to do in the settlement and Christianization of our great interior and middle west. He is himself one of the noblest embodiments of a humanized form of the New England conception of Christian life and citizenship. The history of the genesis and development of the distinctively Christian colleges of America, together with the contribution they have made to the stability of our national life has not been written. It is our confident belief that the annals of one family in primitive Western Reserve will be found to have a vital place in that significant history. Many of the alumni down to the classes in the seventies have been consulted in the preparation of this volume, and some invaluable contributions have been received. Special acknowledgments are due to Mrs. Lucy Fairchild Kenaston for indispensable assistance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
