As the author of that pamphlet does not appear to have had leisure to accumulate the facts necessary to support his conclusions, I did not allow the circumstance to interrupt my undertaking. My object has not been to aim at a triumph over those who believe in the miraculous nature of the late cures performed by the operations of the Prince de Hohenlohe, but rather to call the attention of the profession and the public to the important physiological principle which I advocate, namely, That the power of the imagination and passions extensively influences the ordinary operations of the animal economy; and that the same influence is not only capable of producing diseases but of contributing to their removal.
