Excerpt from The Law of Sales of Personal Property The following work, though in name a republication, is substantially a new book; being essentially changed, in plan and arrangement, from the former edition; and greatly enlarged, and adapted to the present time, by the citation of all the recent English and American decisions upon the subject treated of. The Author flatters himself, that the re-execution of the work, in an improved form, has been somewhat promoted by his experience in the preparation of other treatises, subsequent to its original publication. The subject, it hardly need be said, is one second in importance to none in the law; inasmuch as the buying and selling of personal property is the occupation, which, more than all others, creates or constitutes the activity of human society. Other transactions are comparatively local and occasional, but this is universal and perpetual; and it is proportionally important that the profession should have access to a compact text-book, in which the authorities, upon the various questions so continually arising in and out of court, may be found concisely and systematically stated. The Author trusts, that this requisition will be found in some good degree fulfilled in the present work.
