Nocturnal Idiots is a hilariously funny, witty, bordering on sick, story about 7 boys all coming of age in the early 60s in a small village in the Northeast corner of Maryland. Marty is the main character. He moves to the village when he turns thirteen and falls in love with the place. The old lady next door has traveled most of the world. Marty is fascinated with the treasures she has brought back and the unbelievable, mesmerizing stories that go along with them. Marty and the boys of the village are caught in that realm between adolescents and adulthood. They are average kids during the day but when the sun goes down the mischief they get into never turns out the way they plan. Their reasoning hasn´t matured yet. They ´borrow´ a neighbor´s car to go joy riding and wind up walking back home in the middle of the night. They are fascinated when the new drag strip opens. They get shot at when they push someone to his limits. They make sparks with a snow fence. They´ll do anything to make the cars on the main road stop. They trespass on a really mean farmer´s property and have a big altercation with him followed by a big police investigation. Marty goes to the dedication ceremony for the opening of the new Interstate 95 and sees President Kennedy. All the guys grow up and move away. In his old age Marty returns to the village he loves so much and reminisces all misty eyed about his youth and is surprised when he runs into someone from his nightmarish past.
