In response to this desire and with the persuasion that the Conductor would gladly give consent to anything which might go out from, or because of, him on an errand of good, his loyal wife and devoted helpmate placed in my hands such notes and MSS. as were at her disposal for the purposes of this volume. It is to be regretted that he left so little on paper of those sermons and lectures which had thrilled the hearts of multitudes. They were horn of his experience, and for the most part, were written only on the tablets of his extraordinary memory.
