Mr. Dean, when he was in this country, more than four years ago, and the rest have since been transmitted from China. Requiring more attention, however, than a pastor had to give at any one time, they have been so long delayed. A life of twenty-four years, only five of which were spent among the heathen, might be thought too barren of incident for a work like this: and it would be so, were not the deficiency more than supplied by the character of the person and the favorable influence of her story, especially upon the young.
