Excerpt from Tiny Travels My only excuse for troubling the public with the following reprints is, that my travels are very small. They are every-day travels, sometimes at home, sometimes abroad; occasionally trips without venturing outside my own door, and not infrequently rambles round my own brain - excursions which good-natured friends inform me must necessarily be of the most limited nature. The book may be briefly described as a Snailway Guide, in which, it is needless to say, no attempt has been made to rival in any respect the great guide-books of the day. In it will be found no mention of ´through routes´ nor ´skeleton tours;´ neither are the difficulties of luggage, the embarrassment of passports, nor the complications of coinage, treated of. I feel certain that in no case have I given the population of a town, however small, and sincerely trust that I have never so far forgotten myself as to insist upon my readers knowing how many feet any mountain, however short, is above the level of the sea.
