Excerpt from The School Law 1901: Compiled by the Superintendent of Public Instruction May, 1901 To all graduates of the Nevada State Normal School, who hold a State grammar school certificate, the State Board of Education shall grant a life diploma of the grammar grade when said graduates shall have completed at least forty-five months of successful instruction in public schools. The State Board of Education shall also issue a diploma of the grammar grade to all persons who hold in full force and effect, and who have held for at least one year, a county or a State certificate of the grammar grade, and who shall present satisfactory evidence of having been successfully engaged in teaching in public schools for a period of seventy-two months, twenty-four of which must have been in the public schools of the State of Nevada. A grammar grade life diploma shall entitle the holder thereof to teach in any primary or grammar school in the State without further examination. Thirteenth - To have appellate jurisdiction over all questions relating to schools and referred to County Boards of Examination. Fourteenth - To prescribe in what studies shall be examined an applicant for a county high school certificate valid for four years; an applicant for a county grammar school certificate valid for three years, and an applicant for a county primary certificate valid for two years. Fifteenth - Upon the recommendation of the County Superintendent of the county in which the applicant resides, the State Board of Education may renew a high school or grammar certificate, or make it valid in any county in the State of Nevada. Sixteenth - Upon presentation to them of a life certificate of any State or of the diploma of any State Normal School, the Board may grant a State certificate of equivalent grade without examination, valid for three years or less; provided, that since the issuing of such certificate or diploma the applicant has been continuously or successfully engaged in teaching. Seventeenth - Graduates of the Nevada State Normal School who have taught successfully for the time specified in this Act, on or before January 1, 1900, shall be entitled to life diplomas of undesignated grade.
