"Well, we will soon land, Mr. Ramusio," he said, addressing him. "Cuba has a great future before her. She is prosperous; cities spring up like mushrooms on the island. All sorts of people are needed there: field laborers, mechanics, soldiers, and also cultured men who can wield the pen.
