Excerpt from Reminiscences of the Life Labours of Dugald Buchanan: Formerly Teacher and Evangelist at Rannoch, Perthshire; With His Spiritual Songs and an English Version of Them The editor has had it in contemplation, for some time back, to publish an edition of Dugald Buchanan´s life and poems. In consequence of the difficulty of floating a Gaelic publication, he had to abandon his intentions until the admirers of the author bestirred themselves to erect a monument to his memory. This appeared a favourable opportunity for realising the wish, to publish a good edition of his poems in large readable type, with all that could be gathered of his history, in addition to what we have in his published diary. It was our intention to have published the diary in full, had the requisite number of subscribers come forward. We are willing to do so yet, if funds are forthcoming. But for the present, all we can do is to utilise it, as we have done, for giving a connected narrative of his life; and specially of his spiritual life - to which the diary is chiefly confined. It was published in 1836. No account is given of its preservation; but it bears all the marks of authenticity and genuineness. It is chiefly a record of his religious experience.
