Such a manifestation of confidence on the part of a gentleman of my own profession, possessing great experience, and holding an eminent position in this community, would, under any circumstances, be most gratifying; and when extended to one who, if not altogether unknown here, now appears for the first time in the tribunals of this State, it is right that the courtesy should be acknowledged, and that every effort should be made to justify the trust that has been reposed.
