With a sorrowful confession that our people have indeed been rent asunder by a multitude of creeds, we compare our present state with the history of the Universal Church even from the time of our Blessed Lord; and finding it was the same, we conclude that since the "truth as it is in Jesus" is no way in itself compromised by the dissensions of its professors; so neither is the truth of the Church of England lost because of the multitude of schismatics springing forth from her bosom.
