The Jubilee year, marked by important state ceremonials, brilliant pageantry and universal public rejoicing, was specially set apart as a season of profound interest; the national and international congratulation and veneration of a sovereign, whose long reign had been one of unusual splendor, and whose greatness as a ruler had been equaled only by her virtues as a woman.
