That it is as perfect as it should be, they are not prepared to say; but that it is as perfect as they have been able to get it by much pains and labor, they are willing to acknowledge. With respect to the motives which led to the publication of this work, and the propriety of such an undertaking, considerable might be said; but as long prefaces are seldom read, and are withal useless, unless the works to which they are prefixed themselves are read, the committee would merely state, in behalf of themselves and others who have interested themselves in the work, - that it is evidently proper, for various reasons, that a work of the kind should be published in the prevailing language of the country; and the more so, as the wish has frequently been expressed by the English reading public to become acquainted with the doctrines of the Mennonite church.
